I’m sure it’s just under a thin layer of dirt. The digital version of the 2017 board game Gaia Project was released earlier this week to a mixed reception on Steam.Ī video game adaptation of the original tabletop title, Gaia Project sees one or more players attempting to acquire the most power within a galaxy populated by rival factions. I will keep everyone up to date, while I continue to play further games, hoping to find that gem. But, that excitement and enjoyment was shadowed by my struggling through the actions, and to a finale that I knew would end in a massive loss for me, even on the easiest mode. I did enjoy it, and definitely understand the hype it’s received from the solo community. I would frequently run out of moves on a round, while the automa still had 2-3 guaranteed moves to go before it went into its final three moves, any of which could end it’s turns in the round. On top of that, I just did not have the strategies available to me to play the game efficiently.

And attempting to either fix or even figure out what mistake you had made, really distracted me from enjoying this game. I watched several how-to-play videos, a couple of solo playthroughs, and read through the rules book, and I still made several mistakes throughout my game. And learning this game, while also trying to learn and understand the intricacies of the automa bot, is not an easy endeavour. Because I’m playing strictly solo, I haven’t had the opportunity to learn a strategy or even the game itself in a multiplayer setting. I always planned on playing the game solo, as heavy euro games aren’t a favourite of my wife or anyone else in my game group, and because I always hear how enjoyable the game is while playing against the Automa.įirst impressions - it’s good but not as good as I thought it would be, but I firmly believe that will change with subsequent plays. After holding off on the game for quite a while, I found a copy of Gaia Project for an incredible and just couldn’t say “no” any longer.
